Women's basketball downs Lourdes, 74-54

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia women's basketball continued WHAC play when they traveled to Lourdes on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals entered 5-4 overall and 3-2 in conference while the Gray Wolves came in 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the WHAC. After jumping out to an early lead, CUAA weathered a strong Lourdes run before surging back ahead for a 74-54 win.

J'May Simmons led Concordia with 19 points and 7 rebounds in the game. Katie Snow finished second with 14 points and led the team with 8 steals in the match. Samantha Dorn finished third with 11 points on a team-high 3 triples.

A 3-pointer by J'May Simmons began an 8-0 run to start the game for Concordia. Katie Snow made a layup and assisted on a Samantha Dorn triple to complete the run and force a Lourdes timeout. Dorn and Snow made triples and a jumper from J'May Simmons gave CUAA a double-digit lead making the score 18-7. The Cardinals continued their onslaught from behind the arc with 3-pointers from Madison Birchmeier and Aly Lenz, leading 31-12 after the 1st.

Samantha Dorn started off the 2nd quarter with a triple. Dorn added a layup later in the quarter, but the Gray Wolves began to clamp down on defense and cut into the CUAA lead. After Lourdes outscored Concordia 16-7 in the 2nd, the Cardinals held a 38-28 lead at halftime.

J'May Simmons scored Concordia's first basket in the 3rd with a layup. The Gray Wolves got within 8 points on several occasions, but the Cardinals began to rebuild their lead. J'May Simmons made another layup in the paint and Katie Snow drained a pair of free throws. Simmons and Snow combined to score 17 of CUAA's 21 points in the 3rd quarter. Late baskets from Stephanie Abraham and Tris'styn Williams paced Concordia to a 59-43 lead after the 3rd.

Aly Lenz made a layup to open scoring in the 4th quarter. Lenz added a triple and both Tris'styn Williams and J'May Simmons converted baskets in the paint. Jerrica Neal made a steal and a layup late in the game and Lindsey Ferrington scored off a feed from Jade Finfera. The Cardinals secured the 74-54 win as time expired.

Concordia improves to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in WHAC play. The Cardinals will remain on the road for their next game on Saturday, December 14 when they travel to the University of Northwest Ohio. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
