Women's Basketball Outlast UNOH 66-60

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted UNOH on Wednesday evening in a WHAC tilt.  The Cardinals fought through several Racer runs throughout the game, securing a 66-60 win.

Julia Hirt led the team with 14 points, going 4-8 from behind the arc.  Samantha Dorn came in second with 13 points.  Izzy Viau was third with 9 points.  Taylor Leatherman led the team with a career-high 14 rebounds.

 

Keirslynn Lawless had the first Cardinal basket of the game.  Zaria Mitchner added an old-fashioned three-point play and Asaria Turman scored inside.  Julia Hirt drained a 3-pointer in a defensive 1st quarter, putting CUAA up 10-6.

Samantha Dorn drove for a layup early in the second quarter.  Emily McCalla scored as well and Asaria Turman added two free throws and a layup.  Zaria Mitchner drained a jumpshot and McCalla converted an "and-1".  Izzy Viau made a layup and Samantha Dorn hit a triple to put CUAA ahead 28-17 at halftime.

 

UNOH started the 3rd quarter on a 13-0 run, briefly taking the lead until Julia Hirt made a 3-pointer.  Taylor Leatherman drove for a layup and Hirt added another two triples to push the Cardinals back ahead.  Izzy Viau added a 3-pointer along with several free throws.  A basket in the post from Asaria Turman gave CUAA a 47-37 lead after the 3rd.

Keirslynn Lawless started the 4th quarter with a layup.  The Racers used an 8-0 run to trim the lead to 49-45 until Emily McCalla stopped the run with a basket.  Samantha Dorn made a 3-pointer and Taylor Leatherman chipped in two free throws.  The Cardinals kept fighting with layups by Izzy Viau and Julia Hirt and another triple from Dorn.  Dorn and Ellie Kallner made critical free throws late to clinch the win.

 

Concordia will travel to UM-Dearborn this Saturday at 1pm.
