(Dearborn, MI) Concordia woman's hockey team took on the UM-Dearborn Wolverines on Thursday night in Dearborn. The Cardinals battled throughout the contest, but UMD would eventually pull away for a 5-0 win.
The Wolverines came out firing to begin the contest, recording 12 shots on goal in the opening frame. Molly Burks performed well in net, however, making numerous saves from point blank range. Eventually, UM-Dearborn would strike late in the period on the powerplay, but the score remained 1-0 heading into the intermission break.
UMD jumped on top of the Cardinals in the second period, as well, scoring two goals within the first three minutes of the frame. Lizzy Knappenberger would come in to relieve Molly Burks after the third goal of the game, and after the Wolverines tacked on a fourth goal of the game, would settle down well, making 14 of 15 saves in the period.
The third period would be more back and forth between the two sides, as each team recorded 8 shots in the period. Despite a 2:00 5-on-3 opportunity for the Cards, CUAA was unable to strike in the final frame, and UM-Dearborn added on one more score to finish off the game, 5-0.
Burks recorded 12 saves in the start and Knappenberger finished with 21 saves in relief. Grace Dodgson led the team with 15 shots on goal.
The Cardinals will hit the road next week for a two-game series against Penn State on December 10th and 11th. The Friday, December 10th puck drop is set for 8:20pm at Pegula Ice Arena.
