Women's Hockey overcomes early deficit to pick up 3-2 win

(Dearborn, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Women's Hockey went up against the Wolverines of the University of Michigan Dearborn for a matinee matchup of two Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA) teams on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Cardinals surpass their win total from a year ago, while also picking up their first win in program history against UM-Dearborn

The Cardinals will improve their record to 3-3 and 2-3 in CCWHA play.

1st Period - UM-Dearborn 2, Concordia 1

The two teams started the first period with a back-and-forth battle as two would trade shots with the Wolverines getting two shots off while the Cardinals would see two shots from Emma Shore and one from Mallory Collins, with none of those making the back of the net. Dearborn would break through first in the 8th minute of the period. About 9 minutes later the Wolverines would grab their goal of the game.

The Cards would however get a goal back with about 50 seconds remaining in the period off the stick of Skylar Croft.

2nd Period - Concordia 2, UM-Dearborn 2

The start of the second period would see the Cardinals earn a power play and would be able to get a couple of shots off, but no goal would come of it. Following another power play opportunity in the 12th minute, there would be a frenzy in front of the net with the Cardinal shooting three times in a row, and the final one came from Grace Dodgson who would score the tying goal.

The end of the second period would once again see another Cardinal power play that would not be able to come to fruition, as the score would remain tied.

3rd Period - Concordia 3, UM-Dearborn 2

The third period would see the Cards once again put pressure on the Dearborn defense as they tallied 4 shots within the first 50 seconds of the period. The period would remain scoreless until the 16:40 mark in the period as Grace Dodgson would earn her second goal of the game to give the Cards the 3-2 lead.

Amanda Crundwell would play the full 60 minutes between the pipes as she would only allow the two goals while saving 22 shots.

The Cardinals head back to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, October 22 as they will return to the Arctic Coliseum for a matchup against this same UM-Dearborn team with puck drop at 8:30 PM.
