Women's Hockey soars past Davenport as Steinmetz nets hat trick

(Chelsea, MI) The Cardinal Women's Hockey team hosted the Davenport Panthers on Friday evening for a CCWHA crossover match. The Cardinal offense was clicking all night, led by Makayla Steinmetz's hat trick, as the Cardinals would go on to win 8-3.

The first 16 minutes of play didn't feature much action outside of a penalty kill for both sides. The Cardinal offense broke through towards the end of the period with four goals in the matter of three minutes. Julie McLaughlin, Grace Dodgson, Makayla Steinmetz, and Emily Greer each scored a goal to put the Cards up big after one.

Davenport cut into the Cardinal lead, scoring a goal with 7 minutes remaining in the second period. The Cards responded with a goal of their own less than a minute later, as Makayla Steinmetz netted her second of the game. Shortly after, the Panthers brought their deficit back down to three again with their second goal.

The Cardinals came out and scored shortly into the third as Julie McLaughlin scored her second. Emma Shore added to the lead later in the third to make it a five goal advantage. Makayla Steinmetz completed the hat trick with a breakaway goal not long after that. In the final minute of the game, the Panthers scored a power play goal to close out game one of the series.

Next up for the Cardinals will be a match at Davenport on Saturday, with puck drop set for 6:30.
