Cardinals fly past Pilots behind a pair of goals from Ciszewski and Stropich each

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer hosted Bethel University on Wednesday afternoon as they continued their season.  The Cardinals came in with a 2-1 overall record while the Pilots entered 0-4.  CUAA put up a strong offensive performance, receiving 2 goals apiece from Amay Ciszewski and Isabel Stropich in a 5-2 victory.

Anna Roman started in goal for Concordia, making 4 saves.  The Cardinals went on the attack early with Kendra Lewis firing a pair of shots, one which was blocked and one which sailed just high of the goal.  Concordia got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the 11th minute.  Grace Dame passed to her left and found last week's overtime hero Isabel Stropich who fired a strong shot in the goal.

The Cardinals added to their lead in the 31st minute when senior Amay Ciszewski scored a goal in her return from injury.  Ciszewski fired a shot that may have been intended to be a cross, but the ball rolled past the Bethel keeper and into the net.  Anna Roman remained strong in the net with a great leaping save in the 34th minute to push the ball over the goal.  CUAA held a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Bethel went on the attack early in the 2nd half, scoring a goal in the 61st minute to cut Concordia's lead in half.  However, the Cardinals responded just 3 minutes later when Isabel Stropich scored her second goal of the game on a free-kick.  Stropich blasted a powerful shot from around 40 yards out which deflected off the goalkeeper's hands and in.

The Cardinals continued to add to their lead in the 81st minute when Hazel Wright took a free-kick and Amay Ciszewski jammed in the rebound for a 4-1 lead.  Megan Starkey tacked on a goal in the 85th minute, dribbling past her defender and scoring.  While Bethel added a late goal on a penalty shot, CUAA claimed the 5-2 win as time expired.

Concordia will now head on the road this Saturday, September 11 to face Indiana-East.  The game is set to begin at 1pm.
