Women's Soccer drops game against #23 Campbellsville

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia Women's Soccer team faced their second straight nationally ranked opponent when they played host to 23rd ranked Campbellsville Saturday afternoon. The Tigers lived up to their billing, defeating the Cardinals 7-2. Megan Starkey netted a pair of goals for Concordia while Hayley Jacobson stopped 11 goals.

 

 

The Tigers opened up scoring quickly with a strike from the left side of the field from Lina Berrah just under six minutes into the match. Angeline Kieh made it 2-0 less than a minute later for the Tigers. Concordia's Taia Vega ran down the left side of the field past the Tiger defense to put a strong shot on goal that was narrowly saved by a charging Doeschka Birnage for the Tigers.

 

It was then Berrah connecting with Olja Ivanovic in the box to make it a three-goal advantage. Two minutes later Kieh scored her second goal of the game for four straight from the Tigers.

 

With just under 22 left in the first, Isabella Elsey sent a ball in behind the Tiger back line that Megan Starkey was able to track down and score for the Cardinals first goal of the game. Campbellsville responded when the pressure of Jayda Brown lead to goal from Jessie Bryson to make it 5-1.

 

Megan Starkey brought the Cardinals back within three with her second goal of the game with under 14 minutes remaining in the half.

 

Twelve minutes into the second half The Tigers' Ivanovic found Berrah for her second goal of the day. It was then Angeline Kieh completing her hat trick with a move past the Cardinal back line to make it 7-2.

 

 

The Cards will be back in action on Monday, September 5th, when they host Ave Maria. Kick off will be at 11 AM at Cardinal Stadium.
