Women's Soccer falls short against Lourdes

(Sylvania, OH) The Concordia Women's Soccer team was back on the road Wednesday evening, this time facing off with the Lourdes Gray Wolves. The Gray Wolves struck early in the contest to take an early lead, and would hold onto that 1-0 advantage through the remainder of the contest to secure a Lourdes victory.

The Gray Wolves came out fast, firing 3 shots on target in the first 11:02 of play, but Hayley Jacobson stood tall, denying all opportunities.

Lourdes continued the pressure in the 17th minute, firing a shot on target that was turned aside by Jacobson, but picking up the rebound and firing it past her to give themselves a 1-0 lead at the 16:24 mark of the contest.

In the 22nd minute, Isabel Stropich gave the Cards life on offensive, putting a shot on net in attempt to even the score, but it was turned aside by the Gray Wolves goalie.

With just 8 seconds remaining in the first half, Concordia was back on the attack, as Sabrina Bucci fired a shot on goal, but it was once again turned aside, as Lourdes held the 1-0 lead at the break.

The Gray Wolves continued to press in the second half, forcing 4 more saves by Hayley Jacobson in the frame as she was able to keep the game within a goal. CUAA pushed to knot the score up, but eventually fell short as time expired, ensuring a 1-0 final score in favor of Lourdes.

Jacobson played the entire way, finishing with an impressive 9 saves in the defeat.

The Cards return home on Friday, September 21st for their final home contest of the season when they face off against the Rochester Warriors. Kickoff is set for 1pm, and Concordia will be honoring the careers of their seniors on Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium.
