Women's Track & Field Win 3 Events and Earn 2 NCCAA Qualifiers at Early Bird Open

The Women's Track and Field team opened their season at the Early Bird Open hosted by Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. The team had a limited roster to compete against Defiance and Trine University Despite the small amount competing, the team still had good results. The Women earned 2 NCCAA qualifications and 3 personal bests.

Sierra Stechebar opened the meet for the Cardinals by winning high jump with a height of 1.50 meters and earning an NCCAA qualifying mark.

At the same time, Morgan Jenkins was making her Cardinal debut in weight throw. Jenkins earned an NCCAA qualifying mark and a 3-place overall finish with a distance of 12.82 meters. Also throwing in WT was Quinn Stefanski who finished in 4-place with a throw of 11.53 meters and a big personal improvement of over 2 meters. Elsa Clausen also made her debut and took fifth place with a distance of 10.72 meters.

In Shot Put, it was a bunch of first-time throwers. As Clausen earned 3-place with a throw of 9.94 meters. Hailey Stasiukinas and Aaliyah McIntosh both threw for their first time. Stasiukinas finished in 4-place with a throw of 7.71 meters. McIntosh finished in 6-place with a throw of 6.56 meters.

Hailey Stasiukinas won Long Jump with a distance of 4.55 meters, while also earning a personal record. Stechebar also won Triple Jump with a distance of 9.71 meters, which was a personal record.

In running events, Stasiukinas, Alece Barnes and Hope Renfer competed in the 60-meter dash. Renfer led the way with a 3-place finish and a big personal improvement by finishing in a time of 8.46. Stasiukinas finished in 4-place in 8.92 and Barnes finished in 5-place with a time of 9.13.

To wrap up the day, Renfer competed in the 200 and finished in 4-place in a time of 29.06.

The Cardinals will have a long rest period as they will be off until after the holiday break. They will start their indoor season back up at Tiffin University on Saturday, January 14.
