(Seward, NE) - The women's track and field team traveled to Seward, Nebraska, on Friday, January 17, for the Polar Dog Invite, which sister school Concordia Nebraska hosted. The team departed from the meet with four personal records and two new collegiate marks.
Freshman Emma Puwal (Utica, MI) had a good day on the track, as she ran to two personal records with the best time in both the 200 and 400. Puwal ran a time of 28.36 in the 200 and a new best of 1:05 in the 400. Jayde Ullenbruch (Sophomore; Port Huron, MI) also competed in the 200-meter dash and fished in 28.30 seconds. Ullenbruch also competed in 60-meter hurdles and finished with a time of 10.22 seconds.
Jenna Oberly (Sophomore; Dearborn, MI) ran to a new personal record time in the 800 in mid-distance events. Oberly improved her time to 3:11. Chloe Gunter (Senior; Monroe, MI) ran to a season-best time of 2:54. Elizabeth Hines (Sophomore; Ypsilanti, MI) returned from injury to start her indoor season with an opening time of 2:59.
In the mile, Michaela Kurth (Sophomore; Ypsilanti, MI) and Grace Finley (Sophomore; Monroe, MI) each ran to season-best times. Kurth led the way with a final time of 6:04, followed by Finley in a time of 6:22.
The Cardinals had four athletes compete in the 5k. Macee Ripke (Sophomore; Napoleon, OH) and Rachael Byers (Sophomore; Plymouth, MI) made their collegiate debuts. Ripke led the way with a finishing time of 21:28. Amanda Fogo (Junior; Fowlerville, MI) was the next Cardinal to cross the finish line in a time of 22:06. She was followed closely by Byers at 22:09. Alison Doerr (Junior; Grand Haven, MI) ran to a time of 23:13.
In field events, Quinn Stefanski (Senior; Munger, MI) led the group in weight throw with a distance of 14.05 meters. Morgan Jenkins (Junior; Cleveland, OH) finished with a throw of 12.97 meters.
Maya Freeman (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI) and Stefanski were close together in the shot put. Just a tenth of a meter separated them. Freeman finished with a distance of 10.50 meters, with Stefanski finished with a throw of 10.40 meters. Hailey Stasiukinas (Senior; Grand Rapids, MI) threw a new personal record with a distance of 9.29 meters.
Stasiukinas and Ullenbruch competed in the long jump. Ullenbruch finished in 12 place with a distance of 4.96 meters. Stasiukinas competed in the long jump for the first time this season and jump to a distance of 4.05 meters.
The Cardinals will take a week off for the Concordia Invitational Tournament. They will return to action for the Jet's Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State University on Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1.
