Volleyball downs UM-Dearborn in straight sets

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball hosted UM-Dearborn on Friday evening for a WHAC conference game.  The Cardinals entered the contest 6-8 overall (2-2 WHAC) while the Wolverines came in 4-8 (2-2 WHAC).  CUAA turned in a strong performance and won the contest in straight sets.

 

Kayla Peters led the team with 16 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 47 assists.  McKenzie Peters led the back end with 13 digs.  Madalyn Lisman led the Cardinals with 3 blocks.

 

Set 1 – CUAA 25, UMD 11

Tara Drinane opened the game with a kill.  McKenzie Peters notched a service ace early on as the Cardinals began to pull away with back-to-back kills from Breann June.  A 9-0 CUAA run helped the team to go ahead by double digits and Kayla Peters clinched the winning kill.

 

Set 2 – CUAA 25, UMD 22

Kaitlin Veihl had the first kill in set 2.  Kayla Peters and Tara Drinane were involved with early kills to pace the offense.  The second set was more closely contested with the Cardinals holding a 2-3 point lead throughout.  Tara Drinane knocked in the winning kill for a 25-22 win in set 2.

 

Set 3 – CUAA 25. UMD 18

Kayla Peters made the first kill in set 3.  Paige Staton added an early ace and Madalyn Lisman combined for 3 blocks with both Breann June and Tara Drinane.  Concordia continued to stay in the lead and Kaitlin Veihl secured the victory with the final kill.

 

Concordia will remain at home tomorrow when they host Madonna at 1pm.
