Men's Hockey upended by Blue Devils on Senior Night

(Chelsea, MI) - The Concordia Men's Hockey team returned to the Arctic Coliseum looking to complete their second straight sweep of the season against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech. On a night when the Cardinals honored 9 seniors that are graduating this spring, Concordia would come out on the short end falling to Lawrence Tech 7-4. The Cardinals came into the match with a 10-14 record (6-10 WHAC) while Lawrence Tech came in at 18-10 (12-9 WHAC).

 

The Cards came out hot in the first period scoring twice with both coming off of power plays. Following back-to-back Blue Devil penalties, Concordia would take the 5-on-3 advantage and run with it. Senior Abel Christians received a pass from Quinn Bieniek and Hunter Kepple in order to get the first goal. One minute later Quinn Bieniek would tally his goal of the game with passes from Abel Christians and Tyler Groth. The Blue Devils would tally a goal in the period to end it 2-1.

 

Two minutes into the second period Senior Thomas Hendry would take advantage of yet another power-play goal as he took a pass from Brandon Troyer and Brayden Tayles to take the 3-1 lead. Throughout the final 10 minutes of the period, Lawrence Tech added three goals in their comeback. The Blue Devils led 

 

The third period saw Lawrence Tech pick up another two goals in the 12 minutes of the period. The Cardinals attempted to mount a comeback of their own after Thomas Hendry took a pass from Able Christians and Tyler Groth and was able to just sneak it past the goalie to make it a 2 goal difference. With 36 seconds remaining though The Blue Devils took advantage of the empty Concordia net and put it in from mid-ice. 

 

The nine seniors that were celebrated before the game were Elijah Gibbons, Tristan Waechter, Jarod Segal, Thomas Hendry, Abel Christians, Jacob Culp, Tyler Groth, Hunter Kepple, and Autin Smith. 

 

The Cardinal's next game will be in the WHAC Tournament that will be hosted by Indiana Tech which will take place on February 18-20. The final seeding is still yet to be determined.
