(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Concordia Cardinals men's hockey team is preparing for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Quarterfinals game for this Friday as they will go up against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech University

About the Blue Devils

The Blue Devils finished this regular season off with a 19-12 record and a 9-11 record within the WHAC. LTU started their season by picking up three non-conference wins against Niagara twice and one against Buffalo. The Blue Devils also picked up four other non-conference games with two apiece against West Virginia and Oswego in which they went 3-1. In addition, all four games against Rochester, in which they won, were all non-conference wins. 

On the offensive end, the Blue Devils have an even offensive attack with seven players scoring double-digit goals, led by Thimo Ey (18), John Horn (18), and Sean Pilet (17). In the assist column, four players have tallied over 20 assists on the season including Alec Allen (24), John Horn (21), James Jentz (21), and Thimo Ey (20). 

Three goalies have split time in net for Lawrence Tech, With Spencer Krul and Noah Brandau, both playing over 750 minutes. Krul has a 9-5 record as he allows 3.34 goals per game and has nabbed 317 saves on the season, while Brandau is 5-6 allowing 3.75 goals per game and 257 saves. 

 

About the Cardinals

Concordia this season finished with an overall record of 12-15 and a 6-11 conference record. The Cardinals started off the season strong with a 5-1 record after splitting with non-conference Western Michigan and sweeping Toledo and Cleary. Other non-conference games on the season included Grand Valley, in which they split with, and two losses to Kent State. 

Leading the Card's offensive attack were Hunter Kepple and Abel Christians who both tallied double-digits goals with 11 and 10 respectively. Overall the Cards had 15 different players record a goal this season. The passing attack was led by Able Christians with 21 on the season, followed by Brandon Troyer (11), Tyler Groth (10), and Hunter Kepple (10).

Four different Cards have seen time in goal this season, led by Anthony Seykora playing over 706 minutes over 13 games, he's allowing 3.57 goals per game and has recorded 386 saves on the season, with a 6-7 record. Elijah Gibbons is the other top goalie for the Cardinals playing 458 minutes in net for Concordia, he is giving up 4.97 goals per game and has tallied 261 saves on the season. 

 

In Case You Missed It (Previous Matchups)

Lawrence Tech was able to pick up the series win throughout the regular season 3-1, with the Cards winning the third game of the series.

The first two games between the teams came back in November with Lawrence Tech picking up the 8-2 and 5-3 win in both games. The Cardinals had five different players score goals in those matches. 

Earlier this month the Cardinals picked up their first win of the series at LTU, with a thrilling 6-5 win, and then fell at home with a close fight all the way till the end as CUAA fell 7-4. Abel Christians led the offensive attack on the weekend with 2 goals and 4 assists earning himself WHAC Offensive Player of the Week. Hunter Kepple also had a solid series with 3 goals and 2 assists.
