Indiana Tech eliminates Men's Hockey in WHAC semis

(Fort Wayne, MI) - The Concordia Men's Hockey returned to the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse to face off with the #1 seed and 10th-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors in the WHAC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday afternoon. In a low scoring, defensive affair, the Warriors came out on top, winning 3-0 to advance to the conference championship game.

The Warriors came out fast, controlling the tempo in the first period, outshooting the Cardinals 10-2 in the opening frame. The Cardinals weathered the storm for most the period, but Indiana Tech would connect on an odd man rush with 5:53 to go in the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The second period contained more back and forth, with the Cardinals earning a powerplay late in the frame and the shots being 9-7 in favor of IIT. Neither side could score in the middle frame, however, with both goalies stopping high quality chances for each side.

The third period held more momentum for the Warriors, as they notched a goal just over four minutes into the final 20 minutes to double their lead. Despite some quality opportunities for the Cardinals in the period, they were unable to convert, and Indiana Tech put home an insurance goal on the powerplay with just over a minute remaining to secure a 3-0 victory.

Zachary Janis started in net for CUAA, making 28 saves in the defeat. Kyle Hebner led the team in the faceoff circle and in shots, winning 10 of 15 draws and recording 3 shots on goal during the contest.

The Cardinals concluded their season falling in the WHAC semifinals for the second consecutive year and finishing with a 13-16 record, making it the most wins in a single season in program history.
