Men's Hockey comes up short in shootout at John Carroll

(Gates Mills, OH) Concordia Men's Hockey hit the road for a pair of games at John Carroll University after their 2-0 start to the season. The Cardinals led the Blue Streaks early, but eventually lost their lead and fell in a shootout to move to 2-0-1.

Quinn Bieniek had a hand in each of the Cardinals' three goals with a goal and two assists. Zachary Janis accumulated 38 saves between the pipes for Concordia.

Two minutes into the matchup, John Carroll was able to take the lead. That would not last long as Quinn Bieniek scored less than three minutes later to draw the game even. Four minutes following that, Derek Hebner gave Concordia the lead which they took into the locker room.

The Cardinals killed a pair of penalties in the second period to preserve their one goal advantage. Nicholas Twombley then extended the Cardinals' lead in the second period with a goal that he netted with less than a minute remaining.

John Carroll fought their way back into the game with a pair of goals in the third period within a minute of each other. This knotted the game up at three goals apiece, which is where it stayed for the remainder of the third period and the five minute overtime.

The Blue Streaks' Charlie Tuggey was ultimately the one to win it for John Carroll in the shootout.

Concordia will be back at John Carroll on Saturday for a 6:00 PM puck drop.
