Bieniek's OT Winner Gives Men's Hockey 5-4 Win Over John Carroll

(Gates Mills, OH) – Concordia men's hockey finished their weekend doubleheader at John Carroll on Saturday night. The lead changed hands multiple times, but the Cardinals clinched a 5-4 victory on Quinn Bieniek's overtime goal.

 

Anthony Seykora played a complete game in net with 33 saves. The Cardinals struck first just over 2 minutes into the game when Carson Ediger scored with Seth Francois assisting. Concordia opened a 2-goal lead when Kyle Hebner added a marker with Brandon Troyer and Garrett Benoit drawing the helpers. However, John Carroll rallied to tie the game 2-2 heading to the first intermission.

The Blue Streaks took the lead with the first goal of the second period. The Cardinals battled back at the 13:08 mark when Brandon Troyer found the back of the net with Kyle Hebner and Brayden Tayles picking up assists. The game was tied 3-3 after two periods.

In the third period, John Carroll converted on the powerplay to take a 4-3 lead. The Cardinals evened the game when Quinn Bieniek scored with Brandon Troyer and Tyler Bieniek drawing assists. The contest headed to overtime tied 4-4.

In the extra frame, Quinn Bieniek would be the hero with his second goal of the game once again set up by Bradon Troyer and Tyler Bieniek.

 

Concordia will return home to host UM-Dearborn next Friday at 7pm.
