Quinn Bieniek's hat trick not enough in Men's Hockey's 5-8 loss to UM-Dearborn

(Dearborn, MI) Concordia Men's Hockey took to the road for their second game against the reigning WHAC Champions, UM-Dearborn, in as many days. The Cardinals came back from an early deficit, but were unable to hold off the Wolverines, as they would go on to win 5-8.

 

Quinn Bieniek netted a hat trick in the second period to lead the Cardinal offense. Zachary Janis goaltended for the Cardinals and stopped 32 shots in the match.

 

 

The first period was scoreless until, when 7 minutes were remaining, the Wolverines capitalized on a power play opportunity. Less than two minutes later UM-Dearborn doubled up their lead, to take a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission.

 

Concordia came out strong in the start of the second period, scoring four goals within four minutes of each other. It all started with back-to-back unassisted goals from Quinn Bieniek at 2:02 and 3:02 marks. Kyle Hebner gave Concordia the lead a minute later off of Ethan Lindle's assist. Minutes later Quinn Bieniek completed the hat trick with a third unassisted goal, putting Concordia up by a pair. The Wolverines were able to regain the lead with three goals before the end of the second period.

 

Both teams scored a goal in the first four minutes of the final period, keeping the margin at one goal and in favor of Michigan-Dearborn. Bryce Iott netted Concordia's goal off of an assist from Derek Hebner. The Wolverines tacked on an additional two goals to close out the game with an 8-5 win.

 

 

The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, October 13th at Lawrence Tech. Puck drop is set for 8:00 PM at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena.
