Men's Hockey defeats Cleary 6-2

(Canton, MI) Concordia Men's Hockey took to their home ice Saturday afternoon for a rematch against Cleary, as the Cougars won in a shootout Friday night. The Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders, taking an early lead which they never conceded.

Derek Hebner and Seth Francois led the Cardinals with a pair of goals each. Zachary Janis stopped 24 shots in goal for Concordia.

The Cardinals got things going eight minutes into the first when they scored on the tail end of their first and only power play opportunity of the first period. Quinn Bieniek netted the goal off of Derek Hebner's assist. Concordia tacked on two more goals, both with less than two minutes remaining. Carson Ediger scored the first from Chase Temple and McCarthy Clark and Seth Francois put in the third unassisted.

The second period was filled with penalties on both sides, and also featured four goals as well. Seth Francois got things started for the Cardinals to put them up four. Cleary cut back into the lead with a shorthanded goal five minutes later. It was then Derek Hebner who scored a pair of goals in the final 70 seconds, one shorthanded, and one powerplay, to put Concordia up five with one period remaining.

Unlike the second period, the final period of play had no penalties until the very end. The only goal was from Cleary, to cut the lead to four. It was too little too late for the Cougars as Concordia cemented their 6-2 win to split the series.

The Cardinals will be back Friday, October 27th when they host Rochester for a WHAC matchup at home. Puck drop is set for 5:30 at the Arctic Edge.
