Men's Hockey downs #22 UM-Dearborn

(Dearborn, MI) – Concordia men's hockey started a weekend series by traveling to UM-Dearborn on Friday evening. The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally for a 5-3 win.

Zachary Janis played a complete game in net, recording 39 saves. The Cardinals drew first blood when Bryce Iott scored with assists by Nick Goldie and Chase Temple. Concordia added another marker just under 2 minutes later when Ethan Lindle found the back of the net with helpers to Marek Drennan and Brandon Troyer. CUAA led 2-0 after the first period.

The Cardinals killed off a five-minute major to start the second period. Tyler Bieniek extended the lead by streaking down the left wing and backhanding a low shot in goal, assisted by Chase Temple and Seth Francois. UM-Dearborn ended the shutout with a marker, but Kyle Hebner countered less than a minute later with an unassisted goal. Hebner added his second goal on the powerplay when he jammed in a rebound off an Ethan Lindle shot. CUAA led 5-1 after the second period.

UM-Dearborn scored two unanswered goals in the third period to begin a comeback effort. The Wolverines stayed on the attack, pulling their goalie for an extra attacker. Zachary Janis and the Cardinal defense remained strong and the team claimed a 5-3 win as time expired.
