Cardinals shut out Warriors on the road for 9-0 victory

(Fraser, MI) Concordia Men's Hockey returned to WHAC play Friday afternoon with a road contest at Rochester. The Cardinals shut out the Warriors for a 9-0 win, in large part to an explosive 6-goal second period.

 

Zachary Janis started between the pipes for Concordia, recording his first shutout of the season while stopping 16 Warrior shots. Kyle Hebner and Quinn Bieniek each scored a pair of goals, leading the Cardinal effort.

 

Quinn Bieniek got things for the started for Concordia with a goal 13 minutes into the first period. Three minutes later Kyle Hebner doubled the Cardinal lead with his first goal.

 

Nicholas Twombley netted a goal two minutes into the second, followed by Zane Rydel three minutes later. Kyle Hebner and Quinn Bieniek both scored their second goals of the game to increase the Cardinal lead to six. Nick Goldie and Brandon Troyer closed out the period with a goal each, making the Cardinal margin eight.

 

Derek Hebner tacked on an insurance goal towards the end of the third period for Concordia's ninth and final goal.  

 

The Cardinals will host the Warriors Saturday for the back half of the weekend series. Puck drop is set for 8:00 PM at the Arctic Edge.
