Men's Hockey completes the season sweep against Rochester with 6-2 win

(Canton, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals once again took the ice tonight, facing off against the Warriors from Rochester as they looked to sweep the season series after a 9-0 win yesterday. The Cardinals entered the game at 9-12-2 overall and 6-11-1 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) games, while Rochester entered at 0-21-0 overall and 0-17 in WHAC games.

FIRST PERIOD

The Cardinals started the game with a flurry of shots on goal, with their first seven shots being either blocked or saved by the Rochester goalie. CUAA would be able to get on the board first when Brayden Tayles won a faceoff and sent it back to Jackson Blough who put it in the back of the net just under the 15-minute mark of the period.

The Warriors would be able to tie the game up three minutes later. After more CUAA shot attempts failed the Cards would claim the lead back as Garrett Benoit put back a shot attempt for a goal. McCarthy Clark and Gavin Scally got the assists on the goal.

SECOND PERIOD

The Cardinals would put up another three goals in the second in order to take a firm 5-1 lead heading into the final period. Blough picked up his second goal of the game only three minutes into the period off a Quinn Bieniek pass. Six minutes later the Cardinals picked up a goal off the stick of Nicholas Twombley, who beat the goalie with help from a Sam Sahr pass.

The final CUAA goal came from McCarthy Clark when Gavin Scally sent a pass to the middle on a breakaway to give the Cards a 5-1 lead.

THIRD PERIOD

Three minutes into the period Rochester was able to get their second goal of the game with a deflected shot to make it a 5-2 game. The Cardinals would put their sixth and final goal on the board off the stick of Kyle Hebner as Quinn Bieniek recorded an assist.

Nolan Foster earned the win in goal for CUAA going to 2-0 on the season. He also made 19 saves throughout the game.

The Cardinals are back in action next Friday, January 26th, when they take on Indiana Tech at home with an 8:30 pm puck drop.
