Men's Hockey upsets #18 Indiana Tech 6-3

(Canton, MI) – Concordia men's hockey hosted #18 Indiana Tech on Friday evening to begin a weekend series. Despite being outshot 43-14, the Cardinals made their shots count with a flurry of goals to secure a 6-3 win.

 

Zachary Janis played a full game in net, making 40 saves. Concordia drew first blood just a minute into the contest when Chase Temple converted on the powerplay with Zane Rydel assisting. Indiana Tech tied the game 4 minutes later, but the Cardinals pulled ahead on a goal by Garrett Benoit with helpers to Nick Goldie and Sam Sahr. CUAA led 2-1 after the first period.

The Cardinals added four straight goals to begin the second period. Sam Sahr found the back of the net with Nichloas Twombley assisting. Kyle Hebner then tacked on an unassisted goal a little over two minutes later. 21 seconds after that, Chase Temple scored his second goal on the powerplay with helpers by Zane Rydel and Derek Hebner. Nicholas Twombley continued the onslaught with a marker assisted by Derek Hebner. CUAA held a 6-2 lead after the second period.

Indiana Tech scored in the third period and continued their offensive attack outshooting the Cardinals 15-3. However, Zachary Janis and the Concordia defense remained strong and secured the 6-3 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will travel to Indiana Tech tomorrow at 6:00pm to complete the series.
