Men's Hockey comes up short in shootout at Aquinas

(Bryon Center, MI) Concordia Men's Hockey took to the road Friday evening for a WHAC matchup at Aquinas. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with neither side having a bigger lead than one. Ultimately, the game went to a shootout, with the Saints' Alex Johnson netting the go-ahead goal for Aquinas.

Anthony Seykora started in between the pipes for Concordia, stopping 42 shots and just allowing 3 goals in regulation. The Cardinals got things started with a goal three minutes into the game when Kyle Hebner drew first blood. Just under ten minutes later, the Saints were able to equalize and make it a 1-1 game heading into the first intermission.

Aquinas came out strong in the start of the second period, scoring a goal under three minutes to give themselves their first lead of the game. Jackson Blough evened things up around ten minutes later, but it would not last for long as Aquinas scored minutes later to reclaim the lead once again.

Much like the second period, the third was littered with penalties on both sides. It was the Cardinals who were able to take advantage towards the end of the period when Carson Ediger sent the game to overtime with a power play goal.

Neither team was able to break through in the five minutes of the first overtime, resulting in a shootout. Aquinas' Alex Johnson was the one to score the difference maker, giving the Saints the overtime win.

The two sides will square off again on Saturday with a 5:00 PM puck drop at the Arctic Edge.
