Baseball comes up short in series finale at Shawnee State

(Portsmouth, OH) Concordia Baseball rounded out their series at Shawnee State with a final game Monday afternoon. The Bears won the closely contested game 6-5 to take the series.

Ethan Pollard started on the bump for Concordia and went 1.1 innings before being pulled in favor of Caden Flanery. Both Pollard and Flanery each gave up one earned run. Taishin Matsushita and Evan Jasiak closed out the final four innings for the Cardinals.

Shawnee State drew first blood in the bottom of the first on a dropped fly ball to left field. It wasn't until the fourth inning that Concordia was able to respond with a pair of runs to take the lead. The first run was by Tyler Wressel off of a balk, while Drew Fleming drove in the second on a groundout.

The Bears reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth and added on an insurance run an inning later. Drew Fleming chipped away at the Concordia deficit in the top of the seventh with a solo shot to center field.

Shawnee State drove in one last run with a double in the bottom of the eighth. Drew Fleming hit his second home run of the day with a two-run shot in the top of the ninth to pull the Cards within one. The Cardinals then went down in order to close out the game with a 6-5 victory for the Bears.

Next up for Concordia is a four game series at Lindsey Wilson on March 2nd and 3rd.
