Baseball takes first game over Siena Heights; second game suspended due to rain

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia baseball opened WHAC play by hosting rival Siena Heights on a windy Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals took game one by a score of 7-2. Game two was suspended because of rain with Siena Heights leading 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 7, SHU 2

Trey Acker started on the mound for the Cardinals, pitching 5 innings with one strikeout. Drew Fleming opened scoring with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first.

Siena Heights scored a run in the third inning. CUAA answered when Jake Kuhlman scored after an error in the Saints' outfield.

Siena Heights plated a run in the fifth to make the score 3-2. The Cardinals pulled ahead with a 4-run in the sixth inning, starting with an RBI bunt single by Harrison Ryan that scored Logan Hylek. Justin Kozlowski used a sacrifice bunt to drive in Tyler Wressel. Tyler Lawson hit an RBI single to score Harrison Ryan and then later reached home on an error.

Ryan Kotecki and Blake Weaver pitched in the 6th and 7th innings to secure the victory.

 

GAME 2 – SHU 3, CUAA 1 (suspended in bottom of 3rd)

Dylan Kints started game 2 on the mound, pitching the first 2 innings. Siena Heights took a 3-0 lead after the second inning.

Owen Johnson came in to pitch for the 3rd inning. Justin Kozlowski hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd. The game was suspended due to rain with Josh Burke at first base and Tyler Lawson at second base with Drew Fleming due up. 

 

Concordia is scheduled to travel to Lourdes tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
