Baseball takes two from Rochester Christian in WHAC play
(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia baseball began a four-game series against Rochester Christian with a doubleheader on a chilly Sunday afternoon.  The Cardinals won the seven-inning game 14-6 and made a strong comeback in the nine-inning game for a 6-5 victory.  
 
GAME 1 – CUAA 14, RCU 6 (seven innings) 
Trey Acker started on the mound, going four innings with one strikeout.  Both teams scored in the first with Josh Burke using an RBI single to drive in Aaron West.  
Rochester Christian scored in the top of the third, but Josh Burke countered in the bottom half with a 2-run homer.  Logan Hylek hit an RBI double scoring Drew Fleming.   Kyle Hebner had a 2-RBI single to drive in Tyler Wressel and Aaron Garner for a 6-2 lead.  
The teams traded runs in the fourth with Justin Kozlowski scoring on a wild pitch.  Evan Jasiak pitched in the fifth and sixth innings with three strikeouts.   
Rochester Christian pulled within a run with 3 runs in the sixth, but the Cardinals scored 7 runs in the bottom half to put the game out of reach.  Josh Burke started things off with an RBI single scoring Jake Kuhlman.  Gus Simon and Burke later scored on a throwing error.  Tyler Lawson and Justin Kozlowski walked with the bases loaded.  Jake Kuhlman capped the inning with a bases-loaded 2-RBI single. 
Blake Weaver pitched in the seventh inning with one strikeout and secured the win.  
 
GAME 2 – CUAA 6, RCU 5 (nine innings)
Dylan Kints started game two on the mound, pitching the first inning.  Caden Flanery and Kyle Winslow combined in the second inning with Winslow going 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.  Rochester Christian held a 5-0 lead after the top of the fourth.  Tyler Lawson got the Cardinals on the board in the bottom half with an RBI single scoring Aaron West.  
Logan Fleming pitched the fifth and sixth innings with two strikeouts.  Drew Murphy was on the mound for the seventh and eighth innings.   
The Cardinal dugout became even more energized as they rallied with five runs in the seventh to take the lead. Drew Fleming and Logan Hylek were hit by pitches with the bases loaded.  Tyler Wressel then lined a deep single to the left field which combined with a throwing error to score three runs for the lead. 
Drew Fleming pitched in the ninth inning with two strikeouts.  Fleming's second strikeout went straight down the middle to end the game and secure the victory. 
 
 
Concordia will host Rochester Christian again tomorrow, March 25, for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
