Baseball completes sweep of Rochester Christian with two more wins

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia baseball hosted Rochester Christian for a doubleheader on Monday afternoon to complete their WHAC series. The Cardinal offense exploded for a 16-2 victory in the seven-inning game and secured a 7-1 win in the nine-inning contest.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 16, RCU 2 (seven innings)

Blake Weaver started game one on the mound, going four innings with three strikeouts. The Cardinals scored four runs in the first inning, starting with Logan Hylek hitting into a fielder's choice to score Curtis Townsend. Tyler Wressel hit an RBI single to drive in Josh Burke and Alex Czyzewski scored on a wild pitch. Aaron West capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Wressel.

The Cardinals added five more runs in the third, starting with an RBI bunt single from Tyler Lawson to score Alex Czyzewski. Justin Kozlowski used an RBI single to drive in Aaron West. Jake Kuhlman hit a sacrifice fly scoring Tyler Lawson. Curtis Townsend had an RBI double to drive in Justin Kozlowski and then reached home on Drew Fleming's RBI single.

Rochester Christian broke the shutout with a two-run homer in the fourth. Mackenzie Martin pitched the last three innings of the game, picking up the save with three strikeouts.

In the fifth, Andre Hutchins had an RBI groundout to score Taishin Matsushita. The Cardinals knocked in six runs in the sixth, starting with a 2-RBI single by Curtis Townsend. Alex Czyzewski reached home on a wild pitch and Kyle Hebner used an RBI single to drive in Townsend. Joe Finder capped scoring with a 2-RBI single and CUAA claimed the 16-2 win.

 

GAME 2 – CUAA 7, RCU 1 (nine innings)

Ethan Pollard was the starting pitcher for game two, going 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts. Rochester Christian scored a run in the top of the fourth, but the Cardinals answered in the bottom half when Aaron West hit a 2-RBI single scoring Aaron Garner and Jake Ryan.

Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys pitched starting in the sixth inning, lasting 2.2 innings with five strikeouts. In the sixth, Drew Fleming crushed a solo home run. Tyler Lawson used a sacrifice bunt with the bases loaded to score Tyler Wressel. Justin Kozlowski added his own RBI bunt to drive in Aaron West.

In the seventh, Josh Burke hit into a double play which allowed Jake Kuhlman to score. In the eighth, Aaron West tacked on an RBI single driving in Aaron Garner.

Drew Murphy pitched in the ninth inning with two strikeouts and secured the 7-1 victory.
