Baseball splits doubleheader with Lawrence Tech

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia baseball hosted Lawrence Tech on Friday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader. The Cardinals fell 6-5 in game one but stormed back for a 15-3 victory in game two.

 

GAME 1 – LTU 6, CUAA 5 (seven innings)

Trey Acker started game one on the mound, pitching two innings. Both teams scored in the first inning with Drew Fleming crushing a solo home run for the Cardinals.

Lawrence Tech scored in the top of the second inning. CUAA responded in the bottom half when Justin Kozlowski used a sacrifice bunt to score Tyler Wressel. Jake Kuhlman then hit a go-ahead RBI single to drive in Tyler Lawson.

Blake Weaver pitched in the third inning. Lawrence Tech added four runs to retake the lead. In the bottom half, Drew Fleming hit a two-run homer to trim the deficit to 6-5.

Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys pitched the last four innings with two strikeouts. Neither team scored for the rest of the game and Lawrence Tech took game one.

 

GAME 2 – CUAA 15, LTU 3 - 8 Innings

Bryon Mane was the starting pitcher for game two, going six innings with two strikeouts. The Cardinals opened scoring with seven runs in the fourth inning. Aaron Garner and Tyler Wressel reached home on wild pitches. Aaron West was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force Harrison Ryan home. Josh Burke hit a 2-RBI single to drive in Jake Kuhlman and Alex Czyzewski. Logan Hylek and Tyler Wressel capped the inning with RBI singles.

Lawrence Tech scored two runs in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Tyler Wressel countered with a 2-run homer to rebuild the 7-run lead.

Owen Johnson pitched the last two innings with one strikeout. Both teams scored in the seventh with Aaron West hitting a solo home run.

In the eighth inning, Aaron Garner was sent home on a balk. Alex Czyzewski had an RBI single to score Clayton McKinstry. Justin Kozlowski then triggered the mercy rule with a walk-off 3-run homer to secure the 15-3 victory.

 

Concordia will travel to UM-Dearborn tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
