PREVIEW: Dance WHAC Championship

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals dance team will compete this Saturday at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship. The rotational host this season will be Siena Heights. The Cardinals have seen improved scores this season as look to secure a spot for nationals.

The WHAC Championship for dance will feature six teams; Aquinas, Concordia, Lourdes, Madonna, Marian, and Siena Heights

Dance Order of Competition

  1. Marian University

  2. Madonna University

  3. Siena Heights University

  4. Aquinas College

  5. Concordia University-Ann Arbor

  6. Lourdes University

Teams will compete for the WHAC Championship with each team performing two routines. The first routine will be the preliminary round which will count toward 25% of the overall score. The Final round score will make up 75% of the overall score. In the event of a tie, the score from the finals will be used to break the tie. The championship event also serves as the direct qualifier for the NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship.

 

2023 Results 

Aquinas won with a score of 82.12. The Cardinals took 4th with a score of 69.59. 

 

2024 Season Preview

The Cardinals have taken the floor 7 times this season. They received four 1st place finishes, two 2nd place finishes, and one 3rd place finish. They also received their highest home comp score in program history with a 74.25. 

 

The dance team took home a first place finish at the Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) this season, which is their 2nd title since 2018. This score does not go toward their NAIA season average.

WHAC AWARDS

All-Conference Team Awards are determined by the officiating panel during the tryout period after the team competition. Participants must perform the following advanced skills with superior technique: leaps, triple pirouette, turn combination, and an audition combination which consists of four 8-counts of Jazz, Pom, and Hip Hop choreography.

 

The WHAC will honor participating members that have achieved success in the classroom, on the mat, and in the community. The all-conference selections voted on by the WHAC coaches will be selected as well as all-academic for those that are of junior status and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Each school has nominated a student-athlete that has embodied the five core values of the NAIA which are respect, integrity, servant leadership, responsibility, and sportsmanship. A coach will also be named the WHAC Champion of Character which is voted on by coaches of other participating WHAC member institutions.
