SEASON PREVIEW: FOOTBALL READY TO KICK OFF 2023 SEASON

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia football is preparing to embark on their 2023 campaign. The Cardinals will look to improve on a 5-5 record last year and make a return to the NAIA playoffs. Head coach Joshua Schumacher enters his 7th year at the helm and 11th overall with the program.

 

2022 Season Review

Concordia finished 5-5 overall in 2022. After falling 24-14 in a close match at NCAA FCS Stetson in their season opener, the Cardinals beat Saint Ambrose 41-24 at home. The team later downed rival Siena Heights 23-16 in overtime on the road. CUAA won their last three games of the year against Lawrence Tech, Madonna, and Saint Francis (IN).

 

2023 Schedule Outlook

The Cardinals open the 2023 season with a home contest on September 2 at 1pm versus Taylor, beginning MSFA Mideast play. Concordia travels to Olivet Nazarene the following week for an MSFA crossover match. On September 16 the team plays host to Judson with kickoff at 1pm. On September 30, the Cardinals head on the road to NCAA Division II Wayne State for the first meeting in school history.

October 7 sees the team head to Lawrence Tech for an evening matchup under the lights at 7pm. The following week, the Cardinals return home to face Marian for a key MSFA Mideast matchup. Concordia celebrates homecoming on October 21, hosting rival Siena Heights at 1pm. The month concludes next week with a road contest at Madonna.

November 4 will be the team's second straight road contest when they travel to Saint Francis (IN). The Cardinals return home for Senior Day on November 11, playing a critical divisional matchup against Indiana Wesleyan.

Preseason Polls

The Cardinals are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll, the sixth consecutive year the team has been ranked. MSFA Mideast members Indiana Wesleyan (#5), Marian (#6) and MSFA Midwest members Saint Xavier (#13) and Saint Francis (IL) (#24) also received rankings.

Concordia was picked to finish 3rd in the MSFA Mideast preseason coaches' poll. Marian was predicted to finish 1st with Indiana Wesleyan checking in 2nd. Saint Xavier was picked to win the MSFA Midwest division.
