WEEK 2 GAME NOTES: Cardinals and Tigers both look to stay unbeaten this weekend

(Bourbonnais, IL) Olivet Nazarene Tiger's football team will be hosting the Concordia Cardinals this weekend on Saturday, September 9th. Both teams will look to keep their momentum going, coming off of commanding wins last Saturday.  

 

 

Cardinals' Previous Game

The Cardinals opened up the season with a home opener against Taylor on Saturday, September 2nd where they went on to win the game 54-14. Some of the standouts from that game were the Cardinals' quarterback Gavin Brooks who threw for a program single game record 350 yards, as well as two touchdowns. Brandon Stewart rushed for three touchdowns, and the receiving duo of Jordan Garcia and Seeger DeGayner combined for 261 yards and two touchdowns. The Cardinals defense played well against the pass only giving up a total of 41 yards through the air and 175 yards on the ground.

 

 

Tigers' Previous Game

Unlike the Cardinals, the Tigers opened up the season on the road against Madonna last Saturday, where they went on to win the game 55-0 in a shutout. Some of the standouts from that game were the running back Aaron Bennett who rushed for 144 yards. Cameron Crouch the quarterback threw for three touchdowns, and a pair of receivers Brian Jenkins and Brandon Jackson combined for 122 yards and four touchdowns. Like the Cardinals, the Tigers defense was stout against the pass only giving up 65 total yards, but gave up 144 yards in the run game.

 

 

Players to watch for the Tigers

 

  1. Running Back Aaron Bennet

Bennet ran for 144 yards and will look repeat that effort against the Cardinals.

 

  1. Quarterback Cameron Crouch

Crouch had three passing touchdowns against Madonna and will attempt to air it out against a stout pass defense in the Cardinals.

 

  1. Wide Receiver duo Brian Jenkins and Brandon Jackson

Jenkins and Jackson combined for 122 yards and four touchdowns and will look to find similar success against the Cardinals.

 

 

What's next for the Cardinals

The Cardinals will be back home on Saturday, September 16th to take on Judson at 1 p.m. EST. Then will be back on the road to finish the month of September taking on Wayne State on Saturday, September 30th at 6 p.m. EST.
