Men's Basketball falls to (RV) Rochester

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball hosted (RV) Rochester on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals battled the Warriors close throughout the game, but Rochester eventually pulled away for a 91-77 win.

Zavion McClendon led the team with 35 points. Dylan Jergens was second with 19 points while tying Devyn Jones with a team-high 7 rebounds.

 

Nate Brighton drained two 3-pointers to erase an early deficit for Concordia. Zavion McClendon drove to the basket and nailed a triple along with Joey Garwood for a 15-9 lead. Garwood added two free throws and McClendon made a drive to the hoop for a 19-18 lead at the 9:56 mark.

Rochester countered with a 6-0 run, but Dylan Jergens responded with an "and-1". Zavion McClendon continued to lead the team with two 3-pointers as the Cardinals stayed close. Devyn Jones and Joey Garwood made free throws in the final minutes and CUAA trailed 38-33 at halftime.

 

Mason Canfield drained a free throw for Concordia's first point in the 2nd half. Dylan Jergens made a layup and Zavion McClendon chipped in two free throws and a drive. Jergens and McClendon continued to lead the offense, but the Cardinals trailed 66-51 at the midway point.

Mark DeVries converted inside and both Zavion McClendon and Dylan Jergens showed their range from outside. McClendon continued his standout game with a 3-pointer trimming the deficit to single digits at the 2:56 mark. Nate Brighton drove for a layup in the final minutes as the comeback effort continued, but Rochester was able to hold on to secure the win.

 

Concordia will travel to UNOH this Tuesday at 7:30pm before the Thanksgiving holiday.
