Men's Basketball falls at #14 Lourdes

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia men's basketball headed to #14 Lourdes on Saturday afternoon for their last game before the Christmas holiday. The Cardinals kept the contest within reach throughout the game, but the Gray Wolves lived up to their ranking with an 83-64 win.

Zavion McClendon led the Cardinals with 19 points. Nate Brighton finished second with 16 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.

 

Zavion McClendon ended a 9-0 Lourdes run with two free throws. Devyn Jones hit a pair of early jumpers, but the Cardinals found themselves trailing 21-6 early on. Zavion McClendon finished an "and-1" and both Nate Brighton and Evan Neff hit triples to start a rally. Another pair of baskets from McClendon cut the deficit to 27-20 with 8:03 to play.

Nate Brighton and Joey Garwood nailed 3-pointers to pull Concordia within 3 points. Evan Neff converted a late layup and CUAA trailed 40-30 at halftime.

 

Zavion McClendon continued to pace the offense with the first 7 Concordia points in the second half. Devyn Jones made an "and-1" and both Mason Canfield and Nate Brighton scored layups. However, Lourdes began to regain their advantage and led 64-46 at the midway point.

Nate Brighton hit a jumper and Joey Garwood nailed a triple and a layup to keep the Cardinals in it. Brighton banked in a 3-pointer and the team got free throws from Devyn Jones and Zavion McClendon. Nate Brighton drained one more triple late in the game, but Lourdes was able to hold on for the 83-64 win.

 

Concordia will travel to Holy Cross on December 30 at 3pm.
