Concordia men's basketball hosted UNOH on a foggy Wednesday night in WHAC conference play. The Cardinals picked up a conference win over the Racers with a solid performance in an 81-68 victory.
Zavion McClendon led all scorers with 20 points. Devyn Jones was a close second with 19 points. Joey Garwood had 13 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Dylan Jergens was also in double figures with 11 points.
Zavion McClendon had Concordia's first basket with a 3-pointer. McClendon added an early layup and Dylan Jergens finished an "and-1" for the team's first lead at 8-6. Jergens drove for a basket and Devyn Jones knocked down a triple. Zavion McClendon nailed a midrange jumper and Ray Washington-Batle drove to the hoop. A triple from Matt Kohler put CUAA up 20-16 at the midway point.
Devyn Jones made two free throws and a jumper to keep the team ahead. Nate Brighton made a 3-pointer and Zavion McClendon continued to lead the offense with a mix of layups and a triple. Devyn Jones added free throws for a 37-27 advantage at halftime.
Devyn Jones made a free throw to open scoring in the second half. Nate Brighton converted a layup and Joey Garwood drained a triple and a basket. Devyn Jones continued his solid night with a pair of buckets and Zavion McClendon finished an "and-1". Matt Kohler made two free throws and Joey Garwood converted his own "and-1". Free throws from Zavion McClendon made it a 59-42 CUAA lead at the midway point of the half.
Mark DeVries scored inside and Dylan Jergens added a pair of free throws. Ray Washington-Batle and Devyn Jones chipped in free throws as well with Jergens adding an old-fashioned three-point play. Joey Garwood made a pair of baskets to extend the lead. The Cardinals made their free throws in the final minutes to secure the 81-68 win as time expired.
Concordia will head to CIT this Friday to take on Concordia-Nebraska at 4pm.
