Men's Basketball drops CIT contest against Concordia Chicago

(Mequon, WI) - The Concordia Cardinals Men's Basketball team continued to play at the Concordia Invitational Tournament on Saturday as they would take on Concordia Chicago in the consolation match. 

 

The Cardinals entered today's match at 6-13 overall, while the Cougars were 9-10. 

 

FIRST-HALF

Zavion McClendon started off his 31-point performance with CUAA's first four points. Mason Canfield added a layup to make it a 9-point game. Dylan Jergens ended a 10-0 CUC run with a layup of his own. McClendon added 6 more points and Nate Brighton recorded a 3-pointer. After a short CUC run, Devyn Jones started a 13-4 CUAA run over the final 3:40 to bring the halftime score to within 8. 

 

FIRST-HALF LEADERS

Zavion McClendon led the Cards with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists at the half. 

 

SECOND-HALF

Devyn Jones recorded the first CUAA basket of the second half, but the Cougar's offense would open the second half on a 14-5 run, through the first 6-and-a-half minutes. Zavion McClendon added 7 straight CUAA points for a 63-52 CUC lead. The Cougar's offense would not slow down though as late layups from Dylan Jergens and Nate Brighton would be too late. 

 

GAME STAT LEADERS

Zavion McClendon led all scorers with 31 points and 3 assists. Devyn Jones led the team in rebounds with 8. 

 

UP NEXT

CUAA will head back into conference play on Wednesday, January 31, when they take on #10 Lourdes at home with a 7:30 PM tipoff.
