Men’s Basketball falls to #14 Madonna
(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball hosted rival Madonna on Wednesday evening for a WHAC matchup.  The Cardinals pushed the Crusaders in the first half, but Madonna pulled away in the second half for an 86-66 win.  
Zavion McClendon led the team with 16 points.  Devyn Jones and Joey Garwood tied for second with 11 points each.  Nate Brighton finished third with 9 points.  
 
Devyn Jones opened scoring with a free throw.  Joey Garwood and Dylan Jergens nailed triples as the teams traded baskets early.  Devyn Jones knocked down a jumpshot and Jason Jergens hit a 3-pointer.  The game was tied 15-15 at the midway point of the half.  
After a 5-0 Madonna run, Zavion McClendon knocked down a jumper.  Mason Canfield made a 3-pointer and Nate Brighton made an offensive putback to start a 7-0 run.  Jason Jergens hit a triple and his brother Dylan Jergens had a jumper in the last minute.  CUAA trailed 30-28 at halftime. 
 
Devyn Jones scored Concordia's first basket in the second half.  Nate Brighton and Zavion McClendon had triples to pull the Cardinals within one point.  McClendon continued to lead the offense with an "and-1" and a layup.  Mark DeVries scored inside and Joey Garwood made a 3-pointer.  CUAA trailed 57-47 at the midway point. 
Zavion McClendon scored and Devyn Jones added free throws as the Cardinals looked to mount a comeback.  McClendon had a triple and Joey Garwood finished an "and-1" down the stretch.  However, Madonna held on for an 86-66 win. 
 
Concordia will travel to rival Siena Heights this Saturday at 3pm.
