Men's Basketball downs rival Siena Heights, 69-61

(Adrian, MI) - Concordia men's basketball traveled to rival Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC matchup. The Cardinals came out on fire and brought home a 69-61 win over their rival.

Joey Garwood led all scorers with 22 points. Devyn Jones came in second with 14 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Zavion McClendon (12), Nate Brighton (11), and Dylan Jergens (10) were also in double figures.

 

Joey Garwood had the first Cardinal basket with a triple. Garwood added two more early buckets and Devyn Jones knocked down a jumper. Nate Brighton and Dylan Jergens hit 3-pointers and Jones added a fast-break layup. Joey Garwood nailed a triple and CUAA led 20-12 at the midway point of the half.

Zavion McClendon had a layup and a 3-pointer to push the lead into double digits. Nate Brighton and Joey Garwood made shots from behind the arc to keep the offense going. CUAA held a 38-27 lead at halftime.

 

Joey Garwood opened the second half with two free throws. Nate Brighton made an offensive putback, but Siena Heights rallied to trim the lead to 42-36. Zavion McClendon stopped the run with two free throws and Devyn Jones and Joey Garwood hit 3-pointers. Concordia continued to score inside and led 56-45 at the midway point.

Zavion McClendon made a 3-pointer and Joey Garwood nailed a jumper. Dylan Jergens and Devyn Jones made critical free throws in the final minutes as the Cardinals maintained their lead. CUAA claimed the 69-61 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will travel to Indiana Tech this Wednesday at 8 pm.
