Men's Basketball closes out season with win over Aquinas on Senior Day

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia men's basketball hosted Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game, the team honored their six senior members including Austin Poe, Devyn Jones, Dylan Jergens, Jack MacLeod, Matt Kohler, and Nate Brighton. The Cardinals sent their seniors out victorious with a 72-67 win.

Joey Garwood led the team with 26 points. Zavion McClendon finished second with 16 points. Dylan Jergens was also in double figures with 12 points. Garwood and McClendon tied for a team-high of 7 rebounds.

 

Joey Garwood had the first Concordia basket with a 3-pointer. Garwood drove for a pair of layups and Zavion McClendon knocked down a triple. Garwood and McClendon combined to lead the offense with CUAA holding an 18-17 advantage at the midway point.

Dylan Jergens scored a layup and Joey Garwood continued his solid day with a 3-pointer. Jergens and Zavion McClendon drained free throws and Nate Brighton added a basket. Garwood chipped in another triple, but Aquinas used an 8-0 run to trim the lead to 36-35 at halftime.

 

Zavion McClendon made free throws to open the second half. Dylan Jergens scored inside and Devyn Jones knocked down a triple. Mark DeVries threw down a two-handed dunk and Jergens had another layup. DeVries pumped up the crowd with another dunk. Joey Garwood later added a 3-pointer and a basket for a 58-48 CUAA lead at the midway point.

Zavion McClendon and Joey Garwood continued their standout performances to keep the Cardinals in front. Aquinas made a late run to trim CUAA's lead to 69-67 with 45 seconds to play. Critical free throws from Dylan Jergens and Devyn Jones along with solid defense helped to secure a 72-67 win for the Cardinals.
