Men's Lacrosse overpowers #RV Madonna 16-7

(Ann Arbor, MI) Sixth ranked Concordia Men's Lacrosse hosted a Madonna team that is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' polls. The Cardinals scored in droves, with runs of four and ten goals unanswered to win the game 16-7 over the Crusaders.

The Cardinals came out of the gate strong, scoring four consecutive goals within the first four minutes of the game. Spencer Guppy got things started, followed by Josh Dues scoring after Sam Saje controlled the faceoff and found the LSM. Ivan Progar scorched an unassisted goal for Concordia's third, and then a half minute later Hunter McCarty found Travis Wright to make it 4-0. The Crusaders responded back with two goals, but Cooper Regimbal had a buzzer-beater when he picked up the last second ground ball to close out the first quarter.

Both teams fought off a penalty in the second quarter defensively. Andrew Simmons put the ball into the back of the net six minutes in when he rebounded Travis Wright's shot and one-timed it past the Madonna goalie. The Crusaders got one back with four minutes left in the half to make it 6-3, Cardinals heading into the locker room.

The third quarter featured five straight goals from the Cardinals, highlighted by a hat trick from Ivan Progar. Cooper Regimbal and Spencer Guppy both added their second goals of the day in the quarter as well.

Ivan Progar added his fourth and fifth goals of the day in the final quarter of play to help bolster the Cardinal lead. Cooper Regimbal and Travis Wright completed their hat tricks, while Luke Hovarter netted a goal as well to make it a 13-goal advantage. Madonna closed out the game with four goals, but it was too little, too late as the Cardinals won 16-7. Sam Bowling finished the game with 12 saves on the day.

Next up for the Cardinals will be another home game, when they host Lourdes on Wednesday, April 10th. Faceoff is set for 4:00 PM at Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium.
