(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's soccer is preparing for the 2023 season with a home game this Saturday against Ohio Christian. 2nd-year head coach Jason Clare will aim to lead his team towards an improved standing and a WHAC playoff berth. The Cardinals return an astounding 19 members along with 23 newcomers, giving the team both experience and a deep bench.
2022 Season Review
Concordia finished 2-15 last season with a 1-10 WHAC record. The Cardinals earned a 3-2 non-conference win over Ohio Christian early in the year. The team picked up a 1-0 shutout over Lourdes at home during WHAC play.
2023 Schedule Outlook
Concordia opens the 2023 season this Saturday at 5pm versus Ohio Christian. The Cardinals travel to Saint Francis on August 30 to finish the month.
In September, Concordia travels to Alma before returning home to face Goshen. After road contests at Taylor and Defiance the Cardinals play host to Kalamazoo College. WHAC play starts September 23 at Aquinas followed by a road tilt at Indiana Tech. Concordia hosts rival Siena Heights on September 30.
October starts with a home contest against Cleary. The Cardinals face Lawrence Tech on the road and then play host to Madonna and UM-Dearborn. The team plays a 3-game road trip at Lourdes, Rochester and UNOH before hosting Cornerstone to conclude the regular season.
Concordia Personnel
Seniors: Kyri Wixom returns after making 80 saves with a shutout. Jose Garcia played 1 game in goal with 2 saves. Nicholas Corona notched 2 goals last season while Alexander Valencia added one marker. Brody Smith, Bryce Schaner, Caleb Comstock, Carl Pierce, Chandler Wilson, Elijah Harns, and Giovanni Potestato bring depth and experience all over the field.
Juniors: Ignacio Garcia had an assist with 7 shots on goal. Raul Elizondo played every game with 2 SOG. Luis Ramirez played 14 games last year with a shot on goal.
Sophomores: Elijah Boye and Nicholas Kiafoulis each chipped in a goal apiece. Andre Wangandu, Elijah Macke, Diego Rivas, and Marcello Pinterpe bring experience to the team as well.
Newcomers: The Cardinals have added 23 freshmen: Alejandro Jovine, Angel Elizondo, Avian Valencia Moore, Brandon Choranziak, Carter Kerbawy, Clemens Gehlich, Dario Cela, Dominick Miller, Evan Lock, Franklin Swanson, Ignacio Lopez, Job Munongo, Kristijan Dushaj, Lucas Anderson, Mitchell Kirn, Moussa Haidar, Robert Klinger, Jan Lloveras, John Clark, Ashfaq Adil, and Trevor Meyer.
