Bauer breaks school record in debut; Smith has big day in throws

(Hillsdale, MI) The Men's Track and Field team travelled to Hillsdale College on Saturday, January 27 for the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic. The team competed on their first 200-meter track of the season and proved to be an equalizer, as the team put in a hard effort. The team came away with 1 school record, 1 NCCAA Qualifying mark, 5 personal records and 2 new collegiate marks.

The team was highlighted by Micah Bauer (Freshman; Traverse City, MI) who made his collegiate debut in the indoor 5k. Bauer not only hit the NCCAA qualifying time, he broke the school record by finishing in a time of 15:28. Bauer had a record performance by lapping most of the field and taking home the event win.

Some of the throwers were able to get things moving in the right direction. As Scott Smith (Junior; Saginaw, MI) earned personal records in both the weight throw and shot put. Smith threw a distance of 12.00 meters in shot put and finished in 9 place. Smith earned a fourth-place finish in weight throw with a distance of 14.82 meters. Also earning a personal record in shot put was Garard Noel (Freshman; Canton, MI) with a throw of 10.71 meters.

In sprinting events, Franklin Swanson (Freshman; Canton, MI) ran a personal best in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.04 seconds and is now second all time in school history. The final personal record came from Thomas Haynie who cleared the height of 1.70 meters in high jump.

Dylan Ladmirault (Sophomore; Port Huron, MI) made his debut in the 800-meter run and finished in a time of 2:32.

The team will look to rebound slightly, as they prepare for the Mrs. G's invitational at Trine University on Friday, February 2.
