NCCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 1 RECAP: Men's Track and Field sits in 8th Place heading into Day 2

(Cedarville, OH) - The Men's track and field team finished the first day of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Indoor Track and Field National Championships tied for eighth place with 7 total points. They are currently tied with Columbia International University and Geneva College. While being just 2 points behind seventh-place Bethel College (IN) and 2 points ahead of Judson University and Lancaster Bible College.

The day started off with the men's distance medley relay, which is comprised of 1200, 400, 800, and Mile run. The Cardinals had Luke Bentz (Junior; Fort Wayne, IN), Noah Starkey (Senior; Macomb, MI), Zak Schroeder (Sophomore; Napoleon, OH) and Micah Bauer (Freshman; Traverse City, MI). The relay team earned a sixth-place finish and earned the team 3 points. The relay team also broke the school record by finishing in a time of 10:58. The previous record stood since 2000.

The other group that competed on day number one, was the 4x200 meter relay team. The relay team was comprised of Starkey, Dylan Anderson (Freshman; Ottawa Lake, MI), Kao Williams (Freshman; New Haven, MI) and Frankie Swanson (Freshman; Canton, MI). The team got to run this relay for the first time this season. The team just barely missed out on a school record with a finishing time of 1:33.77 and earned a fifth-place finish. It also helped the teams overall score with another 4 points.

The Cardinals also had two individuals compete on the day. Swanson earned a spot in the 60-meter final by running a time of 7.01 seconds in his prelim. Scott Smith (Junior; Saginaw, MI) competed in the weight throw and finished in 10 place with a throw of 13.99 meters.
