NCCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 2 RECAP: Relays aid Men's Track & Field to 10th-Place finish at NCCAA Championships

(Cedarville, OH)- After a solid start to the NCCAA championships in Cedarville, Ohio, the men's track and field team looked to carry their success into day number two. The results would be successful as they came away with a ninth-place overall finish and 18 total points scored.

Relay teams highlighted the second day, as they combined for six points. The 4x800 meter relay team of Zak Schroeder (Sophomore; Napoleon, OH), Dominic Catallo (Freshman; Westland, MI), Avery Sanchez (Senior; Allen Park, MI), and Luke Bentz (Junior; Fort Wayne, MI) started the day off on the track. The team finished the race at 8:30 for a sixth-place finish.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Schroeder, Kao Williams (Freshman; New Haven, MI), Dylan Anderson (Freshman; Ottawa Lake, MI), and Noah Starkey (Senior; Macomb, MI) finished in sixth place with a time of 3:33.

After running in heat races on Friday, Frankie Swanson (Freshman; Canton, MI) made the finals in the 60-meter dash and earned the team three more points with a sixth-place finish. Swanson ran a time of 7.13 seconds in his final.

Micah Bauer (Freshman; Traverse City, MI) earned a spot in the Mile after qualifying earlier this season. Bauer fought to sneak into a points-paying position in eighth place and a finishing time 4:35.

Bentz earned a top-10 finish in the 800-meter dash; he finished in a total time of 2:04.

The Cardinals had both Williams and Starkey compete in the 200-meter dash. Williams narrowly edged Starkey for 11 and 12 place. Williams finished in 23.42, followed closely by Starkey in 23.44.

In field events, the Cardinals got a point from Jesse Lietzow (Freshman; St. Clair Shores, MI) in the shot put by finishing in eighth place with a throw of 13.66 meters.

Jake Ramirez (Freshman; Irvine, CA) competed in the triple jump and earned a 12-place finish with a leap of 12.15 meters.

The team will wrap up its indoor season with the WHAC Championships on Friday, February 17, and Saturday, February 18, at Aquinas College.
