WHAC CHAMPIONSHIP: Lietzow wins Shot Put in Dramatic Fashion, as Men's Team finishes 7th

(Grand Rapids, MI) - The men's track and field team resumed action at Aquinas College for day two of the WHAC Championships on Saturday, February 17. The team finished tied for seventh place with Rochester University with a total of 24 points. The Cardinals were 21 points behind sixth-place Lawrence Tech. On an individual basis, they earned seven total personal bests and 1 WHAC individual champion.

Jesse Leitzow (Freshman; St. Clair Shores, MI) highlighted the day by winning the shot put with a throw of 14.50 meters. The throw by Leitzow was not only a personal record but a school record. Leitzow barely made the event finals, coming in as the eighth-seeded thrower before uncorking his championship throw.

Gerrard Noel (Freshman; Canton, MI) also competed in the shot put and earned a new personal best with a throw of 10.84 meters.

Frank Swanson (Freshman; Canton, MI) returned for the 60-meter finals after making it through prelims on day one. Swanson finished in eighth place with a time of 7.09 seconds.

The mid-distance and distance runners saw great results, as five ran to new personal records. Dominic Catallo (Freshman; Westland, MI), Jared Stiver (Senior; Tecumseh, MI), and Dylan Ladmirault (Sophomore; Port Huron, MI) each earned a new best time in the 800-meter dash. Catallo battled for the heat win and a thigh cramp to finish in 2:09. Stiver and Ladmirault each took two seconds off their best time, finishing in 2:26 and 2:30.

After a two-year break, Avery Sanchez (Senior; Allen Park, MI) returned to the 1000 meter to narrowly beat out his previous best time by finishing in 2:54.

Adam Fisch earned a new best time in the 3000-meter run by cutting 11 seconds and finishing at 10:10

The team will get a long-needed break before starting their outdoor season at Indiana Wesleyan for the Polar Bear Invite on March 23.
