Men's Track & Field finishes 7th at WHAC Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The men's track and field team traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana for the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference championship on Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3. The men's team finished in seventh place, five and a half points behind Lawrence Tech and five points ahead of Rochester Christian. The team would earn six personal records on the day.

The Cardinals earned their first points of the meet on Thursday with the 4x800 relay team of Zak Schroeder (Sophomore; Napoleon, OH), Theodore Eising (Senior; Royal Oak, MI), Dominic Catallo (Freshman; Westland, MI) and Luke Bentz (Junior; Fort Wayne, IN). The relay team took a sixth-place finish and earned three points.

The next points were picked up by the 4x100 meter relay team of Noah Starkey (Senior; Macomb, MI), Franklin Swanson (Freshman; Canton, MI), Maurice Kado (Junior; Beachwood, OH) and Nakao Williams (Freshman; New Haven, MI) ran to a fourth-place finish and added another five points.

Freshman Jesse Leitzow (St.Clair Shores, MI) earned a fourth-place finish in shot put with a throw of 13.99 meters. The finish earned the team another five points in the meet.

The final points came on the 4x400 meter relay team of Schroeder, Starkey, Elijah Boye (Sophomore; Westland, MI) and Dylan Anderson (Freshman; Ottawa Lake, MI) who earned a sixth-place finish and the final three points of the meet.

The team earned four personal records in sprint events. Schroeder ran to a new personal best time of 53.01 in the 400. In the 400-meter hurdles, Boye earned a new personal best of 59.56.

In the 200-meter dash, Kado and Swanson ran to new personal best times of 23.44 and 22.56 seconds. Williams and Swanson earned another qualifying mark for NCCAA nationals with their 200 time.

In mid-distance events Freshman Dylan Ladmirault (Port Huron, MI) earned a new personal best time of 2:26 in the 800. While, Dominic Catallo (Freshman; Westland, MI) ran to a new personal best in the 1500 of 4:27.

The men's team will have a few athletes continue their season to the NCCAA championships in Columbia, South Carolina on May 8-10. While the rest of the team has their season ended. The Cardinals will be losing five athletes to graduation as they finished up their careers: Theodore Eising, Jared Stiver, Avery Sanchez, Mike Brannan and Starkey.
