Softball sees 4 named to NCCAA Midwest Regional Team

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced its regional softball awards on Monday and four Cardinals were recognized. 

 

Payton Lewis, Shannon McAlinden, Katie Tobias, and Paige Anderson were honored on this year's All-Region team. Head Coach Hailey Cavanagh was also named the Midwest All-Region team. 

 

PAYTON LEWIS | SOPHOMORE | VICKSBURG, MICHIGAN

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Player of the Year, Lewis was named to the All-Midwest team hitting .427 with 82 hits, 13 doubles, and 34 RBIs. She has the second most hits in the NCCAA and the 24th-highest batting average. This is the second time Lewis has been named to the All-Region team. 

 

SHANNON MCALINDEN | JUNIOR | RIVERVIEW, MICHIGAN

McAlinden on the year hit .407 with 74 hits and led the team in Triples and Home Runs with six and seven respectively. She was also second in the NCCAA with 39 stolen bases. This is the third consecutive season she has been named to the All-Region team. She was also named as an NCCAA Player of the Week this season. 

 

KATIE TOBIAS | JUNIOR | BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN

The WHAC Newcomer of the Year, Tobias was a consistent hitter for the team as she brought in a program record of 50 RBIs on the season, which was top in the NCCAA. Her six home runs also were tied for fifth in the NCCAA as well. This is her first NCCAA All-Region Team honor.

 

PAIGE ANDERSON | SOPHOMORE | DAVISON, MICHIGAN

The second Cardinal to receive her first All-Midwest Region team, Anderson was the ace of the Cardinal staff with the second-most wins in the NCCAA at 20, while also getting the second-most saves with 2. She led the NCCAA in innings pitched with 175 and had the ninth-lowest ERA at 2.17. She earned an NCCAA Player of the Week honor earlier this season as well. 

 

HAILEY CAVANAGH | 6TH SEASON

Head Coach Hailey Cavanagh is currently in her sixth season at the helm of the Cardinal Softball program. Her team advanced through the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament, as they ultimately fell in the Championship game. The Cards won their most games in program history this season as they eclipsed the 40-win mark.
