Softball drops doubleheader against UNOH in home opener

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia softball held their home opener on a sunny but chilly Thursday afternoon by hosting UNOH in a WHAC doubleheader. The Cardinals fell 8-0 in game one and lost a tough battle 8-4 in game two.

 

GAME 1 – UNOH 8, CUAA 0 (five innings)

Paige Anderson pitched game one, going 2.2 innings with one strikeout. UNOH struck first with four runs in the third inning. Elyse Brittain pitched to secure the final out of the inning.

UNOH added four more runs in the fourth. Hannah Duchene pitched the final two innings of the contest.

Sarah Tyrrell had a bunt single in the bottom half of the fourth inning. However, the Cardinals were unable to mount a comeback and fell 8-0 after five innings.

 

GAME 2 – UNOH 8, CUAA 4 (seven innings)

Emilee Underwood started game two on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts. The Cardinals scored first in the second inning when Katie Tobias crushed a solo home run.

UNOH tied the game in the third inning. CUAA retook the lead in the fourth when Payton Lewis hit an RBI single to score Madison Poe.

UNOH countered with a 3-run homer in the fifth inning. Elyse Brittain had an RBI single in the bottom half to drive in Shannon McAlinden.

In the sixth inning UNOH added four more runs. Cassidy Kane pitched the last 1.1 innings of the game with two strikeouts.

In the seventh inning, Shannon McAlinden hit a triple and was driven in on a sacrifice fly from Faith Cramton. However, UNOH held on for the 8-4 win.

 

Concordia will remain at home this Saturday, March 30th, when they host #24 Madonna for a doubleheader starting at 1pm
