Softball splits series with Lawrence Tech

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia softball hosted Lawrence Tech for a doubleheader to continue WHAC conference play.  LTU took game one 4-3, but the Cardinals surged back for a 7-6 win in game two on a walk-off double by Maddy Grueter.  

 
GAME 1 – LTU 4, CUAA 2
Emilee Underwood started on the mound in game one, pitching five innings with 4 strikeouts.  Both defenses held each other in check with no runs for the first four innings.  

LTU scored a run in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth.  Cassidy Kane came on to pitch the last two innings making 2 strikeouts.  
 
Katie Tobias hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to spark a Cardinal comeback effort.  However, Lawrence Tech held on to take game one. 
 
GAME 2 – CUAA 7, LTU 6 
Paige Anderson was the starting pitcher for game two, going six innings with 4 strikeouts.  Lawrence Tech took a 2-0 lead after two innings.  The Cardinals got on the board in the third when Katie Tobias hit an RBI single scoring Payton Lewis
 
The team continued momentum with 5 runs in the fifth inning.  Shannon McAlinden started things off with an RBI single to drive in Payton Lewis.  Cassidy Kane was able to slide home and beat out the throw on an error.  Jada Stephenson looped an RBI single into left field to score Shannon McAlinden.  Madison Poe scored on an error and Summer Brady drew a bases-loaded walk to send Megan Martin home.   

Lawrence Tech scored 3 runs in the sixth inning and added a run in the seventh to tie the game 6-6.  Emilee Underwood pitched the seventh inning for the Cardinals.  
 
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Maddy Grueter entered the game as a pinch hitter.  Facing an 0-2 count, Grueter hit a double to the fence to score Jada Stephenson and end the game and secure the 7-6 victory.  
 
Concordia will travel to Cornerstone University this Saturday April 13th for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
