Softball splits on day one of WHAC Tournament

(Sylvania, OH) - Concordia softball competed in day one of the WHAC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon as the #4 seed. The Cardinals downed #5 seed Indiana Tech 4-1 to start the day but fell 3-2 in a close contest against #1 seed Madonna University.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 4, IT 1

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with 9 strikeouts. Katie Tobias smashed a 2-run homer in the first inning to open scoring.

In the third inning, Cassidy Kane reached home on a throwing error by Indiana Tech. Faith Cramton added an RBI to score Katie Tobias.

Indiana Tech broke the shutout with a run in the fourth inning. The Cardinal defense remained solid for the rest of the game for a 4-1 victory.

 

GAME 2 – MU 3, CUAA 2

Paige Anderson started game two on the mound, making the first out of the first inning. Madonna University took an early 3-0 lead after the first. Emilee Underwood came in to pitch for the rest of the game, making 4 strikeouts and allowing just 2 hits and no more runs.

The Cardinals got on the board in the fourth inning when Cassidy Kane reached home while Shannon McAlinden was stealing second base. Faith Cramton added an RBI single to drive in McAlinden.

The Cardinal defense continued to hold the Madonna University offense in check but the team was unable to mount a comeback and fell 3-2.

 

Concordia will play at noon tomorrow, May 2nd, in a WHAC Tournament elimination game against Cornerstone.
