Women's Basketball falls to the Crusaders 74-64

(Livonia, MI) - The Concordia University women's basketball team traveled down the road to Madonna University for their latest Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup against the Crusaders. The Cardinals came in at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in WHAC play, while the Crusaders were 3-7 and 3-1 in the conference.

 

Leading the team was Asaria Turman who scored a career-high 19 points off the bench. Taylor Leatherman was top on the team with 7 rebounds, while also leading the team in assists with 4. 

 

The first quarter saw both teams score on their first possession as Alize Tripp tallied the four points. Neither team was able to get a strong footing on the team as they were tied at 7 at the 6:13 mark. CUAA would finish the quarter on a 14-5 run with Izzy Viau and Taylor Leatherman both dropping threes.

 

Starting the second period though the Crusaders would not fade away, as they would go on an 8-0 run before Taylor Leatherman would hit a couple layups. Both teams would continue going back and forth with Alize Tripp dropping a couple free throws. The final four minutes saw MU go on an 8-0 run to finish out the half. 

 

The second half saw Alize Tripp go out and grab the first basket for the Cardinals. With both teams still battling back and forth, the Crusaders would be able to jump out and extend their lead throughout the quarter and hold a 9 point lead heading into the final quarter.

 

The final period saw the Cardinals attempt to battle back with Asaria Turman and Taylor Leatherman hitting back to back shots. Turman and Leatherman would add in another 6 points with three minutes left and an 11 point game. When it came down to it though the Crusaders were able to hit there free throws to keep their lead within double digits.

 

The Cardinals will next head Aquinas College for a matchup against the Saints on Sunday December 5 with a 1 PM tipoff.
